Searches for a “statutory retirement age” or “early-retirement conditions” usually want one number. Hong Kong still has no single statutory retirement age for private-sector employees in 2026. An employer may set an age through the employment contract, staff handbook or company policy, but that contractual age is separate from the MPF withdrawal ages below. The Hong Kong Government confirmed this distinction in the Legislative Council official record.
Quick comparison

| When is MPF normally available for retirement? | From age 65, subject to the MPFA application process. |
| What are the early-retirement conditions at 60? | Employment and self-employment must have ended, plus a statutory declaration of no intention to work again. |

Age 65 is an access rule, not a requirement to stop working
At 65, a member can generally apply to withdraw MPF in a lump sum or by instalments, or leave some money invested. Reaching 65 does not mean the account must be emptied immediately. The MPFA retirement-withdrawal guidance explains the application route and supporting documents.
Early-retirement conditions: MPF withdrawal at 60 to 64
Early retirement is not simply taking a sabbatical or changing jobs. The early-retirement conditions are that the member must be at least 60, have ceased all employment and self-employment, and make a statutory declaration that there is no intention to work again. Permanent departure, terminal illness, total incapacity and other grounds have separate tests. Check the MPFA's early-withdrawal guidance rather than relying on a general internet answer.
Civil servants need the correct scheme first
Civil-service and disciplined-services benefits depend on appointment terms, grade, entry date and the applicable pension or provident-fund scheme. The Civil Service Pension Calculator is a planning estimate only; confirm the scheme and service record with the Civil Service Bureau and your department.
Your financial-independence date is separate
Being allowed to access MPF does not prove that the money will cover rent, mortgage, healthcare and daily spending. List the years before MPF access, the assets available during that gap, and the income that begins at 60 or 65. Use the MPF Withdrawal Planner to mark the access boundary, then the FIRE Calculator to test spending, inflation and lower-return scenarios.
Last checked 28 August 2026. MPF eligibility and application decisions remain subject to the MPFA's current rules and documents.
