Hong Kong does not have one universal retirement age that automatically ends every private-sector job. Employment contracts and employer policies may set a retirement age or allow extension and re-employment.
Age 65 is the general MPF retirement-withdrawal age. A member may withdraw in a lump sum, by instalments, or leave part invested. Reaching 65 does not require the account to be emptied.
For early retirement between 60 and 64, the member must have ceased all employment and self-employment and make a statutory declaration of no intention to work again. Permanent departure and other early-withdrawal grounds have separate evidence requirements. Check the MPFA's early withdrawal guidance.
Civil service and disciplined-services retirement depends on appointment terms, grade and entry date. Use the Civil Service Pension Calculator only as a planning estimate.
Your personal retirement date is ultimately a cash-flow question. Use the MPF Withdrawal Planner and FIRE Calculator to separate money available before and after MPF access. Last checked 29 July 2026.
